Kristin + Spencer’s Romantic New Hampshire Wedding at the Marlborough House

kristin & spencer,marlborough house,new england,new hampshire,spring,wedding, Kristin and Spencer both knew within a week that they had met “the one.” They each went home and told their families that they had just met the person they were going to marry. And this Saturday, they did.

Despite their certainty, the path wasn’t easy. As Kristin’s friend, sponsor, and makeup artist put it, “Everything that you could expect to happen to a couple over the course of a lifetime happened to these two in the weeks before their wedding.” Declining health put a family member in the hospital. There was surprise pregnancy news. And the day before the wedding, Kristin’s uncle passed away.

As they struggled through the pain and basked in the joy, they did what families are supposed to do – they rose up to support each other.

It’s something I talk about a lot – how we all face grief and difficulty and that makes our relationships and our beautiful moments all the more important to celebrate and capture. But somehow, Kristin and Spencer had to do it all at once – the grief, the joy, the support, the anticipation, and the love – so much love.

Kristin and Spencer were married at a converted church and carriage house in Marlborough, New Hampshire. Spring finally gifted us all with a beautiful blue sky day and 70 degree temps. The bridal party wore blush and lace and classic black tuxedos for a timeless and glamorous look. The details had accents of rose gold.

Spencer’s sponsor officiated a beautiful ceremony. Spencer’s dad (and his co-best man) gave a toast that had the whole room in tears as he told his new daughter all the reasons he loves her and he told his son all the reasons he is proud of him.

The bride and groom cut the wedding cake with a badass knife. (It was a compromise – Spencer actually wanted to use a sword a la Gucci Mane). The party spilled outside into the night, onto the steps and into the parking lot, as guests danced and ate and celebrated Kristin and Spencer in a way they both needed and deserved.

And so, Kristin and Spencer’s wedding day was emotional and hard, but also lovely and fun and fabulous. There was grief for those missing and joy for their blessings, and I think, a little bit of relief that they could come together, surrounded by what’s important, to celebrate the love in their lives, be a family, and just do the damn thing!

Although their future will likely have more of everything – pain and grief, beauty and joy – my wish is that they continue to be a source of strength, support, and boundless love for each other, for the rest of their lives together.
