The first thing you should know about Sara & Greg is that they are the kind of people who kick off their (matching Vans) shoes and frolic in a creek at sunset on their wedding day. In other words, they’re my kind of people. They’re people who are more worried about great moments than perfect angles and who aren’t afraid to get their fancy wedding duds a little dirty. Their wedding was simultaneously beautiful, elegant, and completely unfussy. It was overflowing with all the good stuff – food, friends, family, beer, a beautiful, natural setting, and tons of dancing!
The day began at Okemo Mountain Resort. I caught up with Greg in a quiet moment – his friends and family had been hanging around, but were all off getting ready when I found him – as he put on his finishing touches. I then met Sara, her mom, and her bridesmaids at Winterplace, as she put on her dress, jewelry, and of course, the fancy matching Vans shoes!
After Sara & Greg had their first look on the mountainside, we all headed to Long Trail Brewing Company. Sara and Greg were married in a field ringed by rolling green hills and green and gold foliage, just starting to show the beginnings of fall. At the reception, they decided to forego table numbers and assigned seats, which encouraged the guests to wander the property – the patio, the riverfront, and the bar inside – and mingle naturally throughout the night.
As the sun went down, their family and friends were cheesin’ it up on the dance floor with glow necklaces, silly hats, conga lines, line dances, and more! The guests were frequently surprised by fun new food items, including Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, buffalo tater tots, and fried pickles for the late night crowd (which was nearly everyone). An instant camera station was a big hit and the “guest book” consisted of two growlers, which I’m sure will be filled with tasty beer for many years to come!
Maybe it’s redundant to keep saying it, but it’s true and I think it’s so important. The only things that matter on your wedding day are the things that matter to you. And when you know who you are and what you care about, that’s going to shine through it all. This wedding day was goofy, sweet, unfussy, and stunningly beautiful, and if you look at Sara & Greg, you can see that they are all of those things too.
